Carved from pale greyish-white jadeite jade with natural tonal variation and subtle surface texture, the bangle is formed as a continuous circular band. The exterior surface is decorated with raised relief carving depicting scrolling floral and cloud motifs, executed in moderate detail. Incised lines define the petals of the floral elements and the swirling forms of the cloud elements, which flow seamlessly around the circumference of the band. The interior surface is smooth and unadorned, designed for wear. The overall form and decorative scheme correspond to jade bangle bracelets produced in China during the 20th century, intended for personal adornment. Inner diameter 6.0 cm (2 3/8 in.).
